The Balinese character

It has been a nice surprise in Indonesia to be received very often so politely by the Balinese people.  Wherever we went people, were often smiling, and welcoming. The first example was when we got to Bali's Airport and an Indonesian, Aris, just started talking to us, and afterwards he offered us a ride to our Hotel. Multiple times in the cafes or while shopping even when we did not buy their products or we asked for a favor, the answer was not aggressive. It has been arou d 14 days I am here in Indonesia but I never felt threatened.

I have to say, though, that when we crossed to Lombok, people were a notch less welcoming. A notch more aggressive. I do not know if this has to do at all with the difference in religion or if it was just my perception. In any case, I know that people tend to say that people in La Paz are less welcoming than in Santa Cruz and normally this is attributed to the character of the Andes as compared to the one in the lower lands. It just stays as an open question to me to continue learning about this country and to observe how these different regions differ.
