Decaying Kuta
It is amazing to see how little from Indonesia is left in Kuta. To me, the analogy is an immigrant that has desperately tried to adopt to the new country. A place that almost does not speak its own language, does not wear its traditional clothes, nor remembers much of its origins. Legian street exemplifies perfectly this transformation. Bars that use the balinese women as sexual objects. Music that is presented without context. Alcohol just for the purpose of alcohol. Empty and shallow. Not only Legian street has succumbed to the power of westernization. The nearby buildings now have McDonalds, Starbacks and all the usual suspects. The trash they produce spill to the nearby beaches. A complete lack of respect to this otherwise beautiful place.
